In May 2012, Garena began their Garena Premier League (GPL), a six-month-long professional online gaming league featuring more than 100 games scheduled that will be held. The GPL's first season includes six teams made up of professionally-trained League of Legends players. The teams are made up of the top players in their respective nations. Garena Premier League 2013 includes two teams that are new to Taiwan and Vietnam and Vietnam, which bring the total number of teams to 8. It's goal is to boost participation among groups who are not represented and is open to all people who self-identify as women. Garena is not only a tournament organizer but also organizes offline gatherings and social events that enable users to engage.
