Rachel Keller

RachelRachel Keller is a fictional character from The Ring film series. The character was created by writer-producer Ehren Kruger and played by Naomi Watts, serves as the main character in The Ring and The Ring Two which share a number of similarities with Reiko Asakawa from the earlier Japanese films.Introduced in the 2002 film, Rachel is an investigative journalist who must figure out how to avoid death after having watched the video of a cursed character that she came across while investigating the death of her niece. Rachel must look into the death of Samara Morgan, her son, in The Ring Two. Ruth, Rachel's sister, asks Rachel to look into the mysterious circumstances surrounding Katie's sudden death. Rachel is informed by her sister Ruth that she discovered Katie's distorted body in the closet. She also divulges that Katie was killed by an attack on her heart. Katie's close friends recount to Rachel the story of the cursed videotape myth and Katie's best friend Becca is in a mental institution for watching Katie pass away. Katie's boyfriend, as well as two of her friends were killed in bizarre accidents the same night at 10 at night. Rachel goes to Shelter Mountain Inn, where she is in Cabin 12. This cabin is the one in which Katie and her friends stayed in when they saw the tape that was cursed. Rachel is able to find the tape, and plays it. The phone rings. Rachel hears a voice utter "seven days". Rachel looks to Noah Clay, her ex-boyfriend as well as a video analyst for help. Rachel learns later that Aidan (her son who is with Noah) saw the tape and informed her that he believed her. Rachel goes through the tape in search of the lighthouse, and discovers that it is located on Moesko Island. This was the residence of Anna Morgan, an evil horse breeder who was cursed to appear on the cursed tape. Rachel finds out that Anna had an adopted daughter, Samara. Samara was capable of creating terrifying images that were able to be projected into the minds of animals, humans, and objects. Rachel meets Anna's widower Richard, but he makes her go when she begins to inquire about Samara.
